DUBAI
I bring these images to you fresh from my 10-day trip to Dubai! Although I spent most of my time there working, I snuck away long enough to capture a few shots. The bulk of these images were taken my last day in Dubai when I hired a driver to show me around the city and the neighboring desert.
For those unfamiliar, Dubai is one of the 7 "city-states" that make up the country of the United Arab Emirates (UAE). It's smack in the center of the Middle East (view map below). It's a wealthy party/business/vacation hot spot with impressive new structures and projects that boggle the mind and put Las Vegas to shame! Dubai is quite a liberal place compared to the rest of the Arab world and is extremely Americanized. This "jewel of the desert" is home to the worlds only 7-star hotel, the largest indoor ski slope, incredible man made island residences, and what will soon be the worlds tallest building (over 180 floors). The future promises to bring even more ambitious projects including a stunning new Trump Tower, an ice hotel, the worlds first underwater hotel, and the world's largest theme park Universal Studios "Dubailand".
The weather there was shockingly hot. Mix the hottest, driest day in Las Vegas with the most humid day in Miami..it's like a steam room! The sky is almost always gray in the summer due to the mix of sand and fog in the air. Nonetheless, my Dubai trip was incredible! Due to my time constraints, I wasn't able to photograph very many of Dubai's impressive structures or very much of its locals. I hope to return in the near future and add more images to this collection! In the meantime, after you view my gallery, view this link to see a whole lot more of Dubai: http://www.ssqq.com/archive/vinlin23dubai.htm
